Dental Sedation in Sudbury
At Sudbury Dental Group, our dentists offer dental sedation options to help patients feel more comfortable during long procedures and to calm anxious patients.
What is Dental Sedation?
Dental sedation involves several techniques used to make patients more comfortable and relaxed during dental procedures. Our dentists can help determine whether dental sedation is the right option for you.
At Sudbury Dental Group, we try to do what we can to help patients feel at ease during their dental appointments. In addition to offering sedation options, we will work at your pace, take breaks when you need them, and provide calm reassurance as needed.
Is sedation right for me?
If you have high anxiety about dental treatment, very sensitive teeth, a strong gag reflex, fear of needles or pain, or sensitivity to touch, sighs, smells and sounds, please ask our team about sedation dentistry:
General Anesthesia
General anesthesia is a controlled state of unconsciousness that eliminates awareness, movement and discomfort during your dental appointment. Complex or lengthy dental treatments can be completed while you are asleep.
IV Sedation
IV sedatives are sent directly into the bloodstream through your vein for the deepest level of sedation without using general anesthesia. Our team will connect you to a monitor so your dentist can track your vital signs during the procedure.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
A patient inhales nitrous oxide through the mouth and nose. The medication calms patients even though they remain awake and able to communicate. It also tends to lessen anxiety, increase pain threshold, reduce gag reflex and make time pass more quickly.
Oral Sedation
Your dentist prescribes oral sedatives in the form of pills or liquids. The medication is taken orally in advance of a dental appointment. It leaves you awake for the procedure but produces a calming effect that should relax you.
